We’re a team of people living in Almaty who love mountains, snow and freeride. We’re excited to show you the Tien Shan and the Altai so you can find out more about these beautiful mountains, spend time exploring far from pistes and discovering new spots. We’re here to pass on our experience and help you hit the biggest, baddest lines in our mountains!
Our aim is to make your backcountry adventures safer, more technically accomplished and more interesting and exciting.

We like to think freeride is a philosophical activity – it brings a special kind of freedom. We want you to share this freedom with us, to feel the energy, adrenaline and thrill that riding virgin slopes in the company of like-minded people can bring!

A bit more about us

Our mountain and ski guides are qualified professionals with many years of experience in the mountains. Their main task is to ensure the safety of their group by assessing the risks and choosing the safest routes up and down the mountain.
FrozenRocks’ mountain guides have climbed, hiked and skied in the area of the Ile Alatau and the Altai for many years, and are waiting to show you the best freeride and skitour spots in the mountains of Kazakhstan. They’ll help you see our mountains in a completely new light!

Another important mission of us is to develop Almaty’s freeride and backcountry scene, and help riders in our mountains, the Zailiisky Alatau, ride better and more safely. We offer programmes to teach skiers and snowboarders avalanche safety, ski tour and freeride techniques, and basic alpine skills. All our programmes include practical elements as well as study of the theory. When we’re not running educational programmes we’re pretty much always in the backcountry ourselves! We’re always able to offer you a guide for anything from a gentle walk in the mountains to the most gnarly ski mountaineering routes.

In addition to guided tours in Kazakhstan we can help you arrange trekking tours in the Central Tien Shan, Pamir, Altay, Himalayas and Caucasus mountains. Our guides have experience of guiding on peaks including Lenin Peak (7,134m), Khan Tengri (7,010m), Marble Wall (6,400m), Mount Belukha (4,506m) Kazbek (5050m), Elbrus (5640m), Aconcagua (6960m) and many others.
