Peak SGU – Freeride from a majestic four-thousander

Peak SGU is the main peak of the ridge surrounding the Tourist Glacier. The summit is a perfect pyramid that rises 4,450 metres above sea level. The northern slope is completely covered with ice. The peak is located in the upper reaches of the Left Talgar gorge, between the Tourist and Dmitriev glaciers.
‘SGU’ stands for Sverdlovsk State (‘Gosudarstvenniy’) University, after which the peak was named.
The round trip from Almaty takes 3-4 days. This is a hard ski mountaineering route.
